Our method
How each page is researched, checked and sourced.
Each page is written from sources that were actually read: first the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland, then official inventories (ISOS, architectural surveys), municipal websites, cantonal statistics and, as a complement, Wikipedia.
No information is invented. When a fact rests on a single source or the sources disagree, it is marked «to be cross-checked».
All sources consulted are listed at the bottom of each page, with a link when they are online. A source that could not be consulted is never cited.
Population figures come from historical censuses and, for the most recent year, from the canton's official statistics.
When no population figure exists for a locality (hamlet, district), the page gives the municipality's figure and says so clearly.
Legends are presented as traditions, never as historical facts.
Each page is translated into German, Italian and English. Place names are never translated.
