Origin of the name Burg bei Murten

The village appears in 1340 as « Chastel », then « Castro » in 1394, « Castro villa » in 1413 and « Burg » in 1510. The name is said to come from a stronghold, probably at Oberburg, but neither archives nor excavations have proved it.[1]
