Origin of the name Kleingurmels

Kleingurmels is called Cormondes-le-Petit in French. The village owned no property of its own and does not appear on old maps. It was only marked on them in the early 19th century.[1][2]

Founding of Kleingurmels

Kleingurmels (Cormondes-le-Petit) is a street village north of Fribourg at the end of Lake Schiffenen, the only place where today's municipality touches the lake. It always belonged to the parish of Gurmels and to the counts of Thierstein until 1442. It became a municipality in the 19th century and from 1880 shared its school, fire brigade and administration with Gurmels. The timber trade provides most of its 50 to 60 jobs. Kleingurmels is now part of the municipality of Gurmels (merger of 2000).[1][2]
