Le Bry
Origin of the name Le Bry
The name Le Bry, which stood for a whole municipality from 1970 to 2003, remains unexplained.
Founding of Le Bry
Le Bry is a hamlet of the former municipality of Pont-en-Ogoz, now on the Fribourg-Bulle motorway corridor, on the shore of the Lac de la Gruyère. The site was already inhabited in Gallo-Roman times, and a rich early medieval cemetery has been uncovered here. The hamlet belonged to the lordship of Pont, whose castle and small town stood in a bend of the Sarine, and to the parish of Avry-devant-Pont. People lived from fodder crops and cattle breeding. In 1970 the former municipality of Pont-en-Ogoz joined Villars-d'Avry under the name Le Bry. That municipality became part of the new municipality of Pont-en-Ogoz in 2003.[1][2][3]
