Origin of the name Lieffrens

Lieffrens is recorded in 1147 as « Leifres », and in the 12th century as « Lenfrens ». The name has not been explained.[1]

Founding of Lieffrens

Lieffrens consists of isolated farms in the Haute-Glâne, away from the main roads. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the lordship of Rue, and a family of Lieffrens appears in the 14th and 15th centuries. The church mentioned in 1247 was perhaps the seat of the parish, which later moved to Vuisternens-devant-Romont at an unknown date. The village has kept its rural character, with farming, livestock and dairying. Lieffrens is now part of the municipality of Vuisternens-devant-Romont (merger of 2003).[1]
