Villarepos
Origin of the name Villarepos
The village appears in 1332 as « Villarepot ». Its old German name is Ruppertswil. The name has not been explained.[1]
Founding of Villarepos
Villarepos (Ruppertswil) first belonged to the lordship of Avenches. Fribourg bought the village from the d'Avenches family in 1502 and sold it on in 1504 to the Praroman family, who kept it until 1798. Until the Reformation it belonged to the parish of Donatyre. The municipal territory included the hamlet of Plan and, from 1983, Chandossel. People live from livestock and farming. The Benedictine priory of Berlai was long wrongly placed at Villarepos. The village is now part of the municipality of Courtepin (merger of 2017).[1]
