Origin of the name Vully-le-Haut

The Vully appears in 968/985 as « Vuisliacense », then as « Vuilliez » in 1453. The municipality is called Vully-le-Haut until 1977, then Haut-Vully. In German it was once called « Oberwistenlach ».[1][2]

Founding of Vully-le-Haut

Vully-le-Haut covered the south-western half of Mont Vully. The municipality brought together the villages of Môtier, Lugnorre, Joressant and Mur, and part of the hamlet of Guévaux. The parish of Môtier took in the municipality and Bas-Vully. The economy rested mainly on vineyards and farming, with market gardening, and tourism grew in importance. Since 1 January 2016 Haut-Vully has formed the municipality of Mont-Vully together with Bas-Vully.[1]
