The village was called « Barrum », « Bars » and « Bart » before becoming Baar. The meaning of the name is not known.[2]

Founding of Baar

Baar is a village of the municipality of Nendaz. The site was frequented in prehistory and again in antiquity. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the majorie of Brignon, which included Baar, Brignon, Beuson, Heiss and Clèbes. The Chapter of Sion held a good part of its lands here, and vineyards were then well developed. The village is irrigated by its own bisse.[1][2][3]
