Origin of the name Brot-Plamboz

The name Brot appears in 998 in the form « Broch », in the founding charter of the priory of Bevaix. The name of the municipality combines those of its two localities, Brot-Dessus and Plamboz. The etymology is not explained in the sources read.

Founding of Brot-Plamboz

No founder or founding act is known. Brot-Dessus formerly formed a municipality with Brot-Dessous, which included it until 1888. From 1875 to 1888, Brot-Dessus and Plamboz together formed a municipalité (residents' commune). In 1888 they formed the municipality of Brot-Plamboz, later joined by the hamlet of Le Joratel. The territory lies on the salt and wine road linking Burgundy to Neuchâtel.

History of Brot-Plamboz

998. First mention of « Broch », in the founding charter of the priory of Bevaix.

1524-1730. The municipality of Brot, to which Brot-Dessus belongs, is associated with that of Rochefort.

1685. In church matters, Brot-Dessus and Plamboz now belong to the parish of Les Ponts-de-Martel.

1875. Brot-Dessus and Plamboz form a municipalité (residents' commune).

1888. Brot-Dessus separates from Brot-Dessous; creation of the municipality of Brot-Plamboz.

1922. Le Joratel leaves the municipality of Les Ponts-de-Martel to join Brot-Plamboz (1920 according to one HDS entry).

1956. Running water reaches every home in the municipality.

1960. End of hard cheese production.

1970. Opening of a drainage business, the municipality's only industry.

1991. End of the working of the vast peat bogs of the Les Ponts valley.
