Chermignon
Origin of the name Chermignon
The name appears in 1228 as « Chermenon » and « Chirminon ». What the name means is not yet known.[1]
Founding of Chermignon
The territory, on the right bank of the Rhône, has been settled from the plain since the Neolithic. It included the villages of Chermignon d'en Haut (1'168 m) and Chermignon d'en Bas (927 m), the hamlets of Champzabé (595 m) and Ollon, and part of Crans-sur-Sierre (1'460 m). Chermignon has no founding act of its own: for centuries it formed, with Montana and Icogne, one of the quarters of the large community of Lens, in the dizain of Sierre, and belonged to the large parish of Lens. Only in the 20th century did it break away, first as a municipality, then as a parish.[1][2][3]
