Origin of the name Courchapoix
Name origin: mentioned in 1435 in the form « Curchappoix ». A mention of 1428, « Courchappoy », is also reported (to be cross-checked). The name would combine the Romance corte (farm estate, hamlet), from the Latin cohors, with the personal name Cappilius (to be cross-checked).
Founding of Courchapoix
Courchapoix lies in the Val Terbi, the eastern part of the Scheulte valley. No founder is known; a few 10th-century graves attest a rural community, and the oldest sanctuary found beneath the parish church of Saint-Imier is Romanesque. In the 15th century the manor (landed estate) of Courchapoix belongs to the lords of Ramstein. Until 1797 the village is part of the provostry of Moutier-Grandval and of the mayoralty of Courrendlin.

1766. Courchapoix, until then part of the parish of Vicques, becomes a vicariate.
1781. Courchapoix becomes an independent parish.

1797-1813. French period: department of Mont-Terrible until 1800, then Haut-Rhin until 1813.
1815. Courchapoix is attached to the Bernese bailiwick of Moutier.
1874-1935. The parish is united with that of Corban.
early 20th century. Farming, livestock breeding and silk weaving.
1975. On 7 September, after the plebiscites of 1974 and 1975, the municipality, now on the border, opts for the canton of Jura.
1976. Courchapoix is attached to the district of Delémont.
2000. More than two thirds of the working population work outside the municipality, which has only one business, a watch-case polishing workshop.
