First mentioned in 1228 as «Donperro». The name points to an ancient origin (6th-7th century); it is said to come from the Latin «Dominus Petrus», «Lord Peter», that is Saint Peter (etymology to be cross-checked).

Historic sites in Dompierre

The church. Built in 1839 on the site of the 12th-century church of Notre-Dame; remains of walls found in 1975 bear witness to an even older building.

The parsonage. As the medieval parsonage had been sold at the Reformation, a new parsonage was built in 1752.

The hamlet of Les Granges. Besides the village, the municipality includes the hamlet of Les Granges.
