Origin of the name Formangueires

The name Formangueires has not been explained.

Founding of Formangueires

Since the Middle Ages Formangueires has shared the fortunes of Lossy. In the 13th century it belonged for a time to Nicolas d'Englisberg, like Lossy and La Corbaz. Too small to have its own authorities, it asked in 1834 to be united with Lossy. The two municipalities merged in 1982 as Lossy-Formangueires. Formangueires is now a village of La Sonnaz (merger of 2004).[1][2]

History of Formangueires

1294. Formangueires belonged for a time, with Lossy and La Corbaz, to Nicolas d'Englisberg, who sold Lossy to his brother Guillaume in May 1294.[1]

1831. On 20 December a cantonal law allows municipalities of fewer than 50 inhabitants to be united.[1]

1834. On 25 August Formangueires is united administratively with Lossy. The village had asked for this for two reasons: it lacked burghers to form lawful authorities, and it refused to share the upkeep of the road through Cormagens, which that municipality wanted it to do.[1]

1981. On 6 October, under mayor Paul Schneuwly, 27 citizens of Formangueires vote on the merger with Lossy: 23 in favour, 4 against.[1]

1981. On 10 November the Grand Council adopts the decree merging Formangueires and Lossy.[2]

1982. On 1 January Formangueires and Lossy form the municipality of Lossy-Formangueires. Each former municipality keeps its livestock inspector and its crop manager.[1][2]

2003. On 20 May the assembly of Lossy-Formangueires approves the merger with La Corbaz and Cormagens by 77 votes, unopposed.[3]

2004. On 1 January Formangueires becomes a village of La Sonnaz.[1][3]
