Granges (Veveyse)
Origin of the name Granges (Veveyse)
The name appears in 1134 in the Latin phrase « per campos Grangiarum », through the fields of the granges.[1]
Founding of Granges (Veveyse)
Granges lies on the northern slope of Mont-Pèlerin. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the lordship of Bossonnens and to the parish of Attalens. In 1134 Amédée de Blonay and his son, lords of Attalens and Bossonnens, gave the grange of Sâles to the Cistercians of Hautcrêt. The municipality later acquired this estate, known as the « abbaye de Sâles », in two stages, in 1563 and 1810.[1]
