Haut-Intyamon
Origin of the name Haut-Intyamon
Haut-Intyamon names the upper valley of the Intyamon, whose southern end the municipality occupies, upstream of Grandvillard. The name comes from none of the four merged municipalities, which in 2002 became the names of its villages.[1][5]
Founding of Haut-Intyamon
Albeuve, Lessoc, Montbovon and Neirivue form Haut-Intyamon, together with the hamlet of Les Sciernes-d'Albeuve. The project grew out of a joint process among the eight municipalities of the valley, whose inhabitants chose two mergers rather than one in 2000. The citizens of the four upper municipalities accepted the merger on 26 June 2001, the Grand Council ratified it by decree on 18 September 2001, and it took effect on 1 January 2002. The new municipality had 1'405 inhabitants in 2003. Its arms show, on a red field, a wavy bend divided black and silver and a silver crane with raised wings, passing over a green mount of two peaks.[1][2][3][5]
