Les Glânes
Origin of the name Les Glânes
The name, recorded in 1349 as « Deis Glanes », remains unexplained.[1]
Founding of Les Glânes
A small farming community in the parish of Villaz-Saint-Pierre, Les Glânes belonged in the Middle Ages to the Savoyard county of Romont. In 1598 the Fribourg government granted the village as a fief to the banneret Jean Musy, squire of Romont, and the Musy family kept it until feudal rights were abolished. In 1980 almost half of the inhabitants still worked in the primary sector, and no residential quarter had been built. Les Glânes is today part of the municipality of Romont (merger of 1981).[1]
