Les Pommerats
Origin of the name Les Pommerats
The village appears in 1370 as « Pomerat ». The old German name « Bresselerwalden » is also recorded. Where does the name come from? That is still unknown.[1]
Founding of Les Pommerats
Neither the founder nor the circumstances in which Les Pommerats came into being are known. The village on the road from Saignelégier to Goumois is first mentioned in 1370. It belonged to the lordship of the Franches-Montagnes, a territory of the Bishopric of Basel. Attached first to the parish of Montfaucon, then to that of Saignelégier in 1629, it became a parish in 1783, the last one created in the Franches-Montagnes. It now belongs to the municipality of Saignelégier (merger of 1 January 2009).[1]
