Misery-Courtion

Merger 1997 Canton of Fribourg · District: Lac · 2'393 inhabitants (31.12.2025)

Origin of the name Misery-Courtion

The name joins those of two of the four villages brought together. The promoters of the merger first thought of calling the municipality Courtion, after the medieval parish, and of taking over its coat of arms. The municipal councils finally chose Misery-Courtion.[1]

Founding of Misery-Courtion

Since 1 January 1997 Misery-Courtion has brought together Cormérod, Cournillens, Courtion and Misery, which had 1'104 inhabitants between them in 1996. The project took about four years and met with opposition. Corsalettes, which had taken part in the first talks, withdrew from the study by decision of its municipal assembly. The municipality covers 1'141 hectares at 605 m, in a landscape of hills and moraines. The four villages have kept their character, « more or less agricultural or residential ».[1][2][3][4]
