Posat
Origin of the name Posat
The place first bears the name « Vilar Aldiert », recorded in 1148. The form « Posat » appears in 1179, and its meaning has not been established.[1]
Founding of Posat
Posat lies on the right bank of the Glâne. The land first belonged to the lords of Pont. Between 1137 and 1148 Pierre and his brothers gave a large part of it to the Premonstratensian abbey of Humilimont, so that it could set up a farm and a chapel there. Premonstratensian sisters from Humilimont formed a small priory here, and the abbey bought jurisdiction over the place from the lords of Pont. The village always remained in the parish of Farvagny and kept its farming character, with livestock and fodder crops. Posat is now part of the municipality of Gibloux (merger of 2016), having belonged to the municipality of Farvagny from 1996.[1][2]
