Gibloux
Origin of the name Gibloux
The municipality takes the name of the chain of hills in the Fribourg Prealps, running from south-west to north-east on the boundary of the Glâne, Sarine and Gruyère districts. The mountain appears in 1141 as « monte Iubleur », in 1143 as « monte Iublors », then in 1239 as « Jublors ». Only this name found favour in the five municipalities, and it was submitted to the Nomenclature Commission, the prefectures and swisstopo.[1][2]
Founding of Gibloux
Corpataux-Magnedens, Farvagny, Le Glèbe, Rossens and Vuisternens-en-Ogoz formed Gibloux on 1 January 2016. Several of them were already the result of mergers. The project, prepared from 2007 with Hauterive, lost that municipality in 2013 and became one stage of the Sarine merger plan. The agreement was signed on 8 October 2014, the five electorates accepted it on 30 November 2014, and the Grand Council passed the merger law on 20 May 2015. The five municipalities had 6'899 inhabitants at the end of 2013, on 36.05 km².[1][2][3][5]
