Origin of the name Remaufens

Remaufens is recorded around the year 1000 as « Romulfens ».[1]

Founding of Remaufens

The village sits on a height overlooking the road from Châtel-Saint-Denis to Palézieux. It belonged to the lordship of Fruence. When the count of Savoy founded the town of Châtel-Saint-Denis at the end of the 13th century, the Fruence tenants had to settle there, except those of Remaufens. Remaufens became a quarter of the new town and remained one until 1806. A farming and craft community, the municipality has gained residential districts thanks to the nearby Lake Geneva region.[1][3]
