First written mention in 967 in the form «villa Romanella». The origin of the name is not explained by the sources consulted.

Founding of Romanel-sur-Morges

The sources consulted say neither when nor by whom the village was founded. In 967 the «villa Romanella» belonged to the canons of Saint-Jean in Besançon; in 1120 it passed to the archbishop of Besançon, then to the lords of Cossonay.

1120. Romanel belongs to the archbishop of Besançon, before passing to the lords of Cossonay.

1410. Henri de Colombier annexes Romanel to the lordship of Vullierens, to which Aclens is attached.

1536-1798. Bernese rule: Romanel belongs to the bailiwick of Morges (from 1539), within the castellany of Aclens.

1537. The assembly of the commune's citizens is mentioned for the first time.

1675. The town of Morges buys the lordship of Romanel.

1798. Romanel becomes part of the district of Morges.

1937. The present church is built, replacing an old chapel.

1954. Land consolidation.

late 1960s. Start of residential and industrial development.

1981. The company Logitech settles in the intercommunal Moulin du Choc zone; it sets up its European headquarters there in 1993.

2000. The municipality has 441 inhabitants.

2019. On 2 December the municipality hands over its water supply network to Lausanne for a symbolic franc, effective April 2020 (to be cross-checked).
