Part of the municipality of Fully

Origin of the name Sorniot

Also spelled « Sorgno », and « Chorgne » in patois, the name is said to come from the patois « chi ergneu », jagged rock. No dated early form is known.[3]

Founding of Sorniot

Sorniot is a vast high-altitude area of the municipality of Fully, on the circuit of the Grand Chavalard, between the lower and upper lakes of Fully. The lower lake is also called Petit Lac or « Lac de Sorniot ». It is not a village: it has a chapel, a cross and a hut at 2'064 m. The hut grew out of the goal set in 1937 by the founders of the Ski-Club Chavalard of Fully, and the chapel, one of the hamlet chapels of Fully, dates from 1985.[1][2][3][4]
