Villaranon
Origin of the name Villaranon
From 1437 to 1472 the village's name was borne by a branch of the Estavayer family, known as de Villaranon. Its meaning is not known.[1]
Founding of Villaranon
Villaranon is a small farming village near Siviriez, whose parish it has always belonged to. In the Middle Ages it formed a lordship, which belonged first to the Dompierre, then to a branch of the Estavayer. After passing to the Bonvillars, the Maillard, then the Chesaul, the Progin and the Brünisholz, it was acquired by the town of Fribourg in 1728. Cereals, fodder crops and livestock still supported the village at the beginning of the 21st century. Villaranon is now part of the municipality of Siviriez (merger of 1978).[1]
