Ammere
Origin of the name Ammere
The name, recorded since the 14th century like those of the neighbouring hamlets of Gadme and Wiler, has not been explained.[1][2]
Founding of Ammere
Ammere is one of three small hamlets on a steep south-facing slope in the Goms valley, together with Gadme and Wiler. The three were independent communities until 1848, then belonged to the municipality of Blitzingen, now part of the municipality of Goms. Ammere's buildings are old and may partly date back to the first half of the 16th century. The valley road, opened around 1860, left the hamlets isolated on their slope. Their paths are still covered with grass.[1][2][4]
