Bouveret
Origin of the name Bouveret
The village was first called Eydier. In the 16th century it took the name Bouveret, whose meaning has not been explained.[1]
Founding of Bouveret
Le Bouveret is, with Les Evouettes, one of the two villages of the municipality of Port-Valais. From the 15th century the hamlet of Port-Valais lost importance. For a long time Le Bouveret played only the modest role of a « souste », while Port-Valais stood at the head of the lake. Its port eventually overtook that of Port-Valais, once the only Valais landing stage on Lake Geneva.[1][2]
