Champtauroz
Origin of the name Champtauroz
First mentioned in 1228 in the form «Chantuoro». The name is said to be of Celtic origin, formed from «canto» (white) and «dŭrōn» (gate, or castle according to another explanation) (to be cross-checked).
Founding of Champtauroz
No founder or founding charter is known. A bronze oinochoe (wine jug) found in the area attests to early frequentation. The village appears in 1228, already with a parish church. It first belonged to the lordship of Saint-Martin-du-Chêne, then, from 1338, to the priory of Lutry, represented locally by a mayor. The commune comprises the village and the hamlet of Le Pontet.
