Cousset
Origin of the name Cousset
The origin of the name Cousset is unexplained.
Founding of Cousset
Cousset lies on the left bank of the Arbogne, at the foot of the hill and forest of Bois Girard. The village belonged to the former municipality of Montagny-les-Monts, with the village of that name, the hamlets of Les Arbognes and Villarey and the enclave of Tours. It stretches along the road from Fribourg to Estavayer-le-Lac via Grolley, along which a few farmhouses and small rural houses (« carrées ») of the 18th and 19th centuries were scattered. The station, opened in 1876 on the Fribourg to Payerne line, and 20th-century industrial growth made Cousset a dense village with services.[1][2][4]
