Origin of the name Fiaugères

Fiaugères is recorded around 1150 as "Felgeria", then in 1273 as "Fiougiere". In 1488 the form "Villa dou bos es fyougires" appears. The meaning of the name has not been explained.[1]

Founding of Fiaugères

Fiaugères is a scattered settlement on the north side of the Mionnaz valley, north-east of Oron-la-Ville, on the Lausanne-Bulle road. The village enters history through the cartulary of the Cistercian abbey of Hautcrêt, whose monks kept a mill there. In the Middle Ages it depended on the lordship of Oron. Fiaugères has remained rural. It is now part of the municipality of Saint-Martin (merger of 2004).[1]
