Origin of the name Gland (Vullierens)
Name origin: none of the sources consulted gives a first written mention or an etymology specific to the hamlet of Gland; the origin of the name is not explained. It should not be confused with the town of Gland, in the district of Nyon.
Founding of Gland (Vullierens)
Gland is not a municipality: it is a hamlet of the municipality of Vullierens, in the district of Morges, a municipality made up of the village of Vullierens and the hamlet of Gland. No founding act is known and none of the sources consulted says who created it or when. The hamlet lies nearly 200 metres north-east of the core of Vullierens and follows a horizontal linear layout overlooking the vine-covered slope. Its houses are mostly former farmhouses, sometimes adjoining, whose rural structure has been preserved; the building fabric goes back to the 18th century and dates mainly from the 19th century.
History of Gland (Vullierens)
1539-1798. Vullierens, which includes Gland, is part of the Bernese bailiwick of Morges (applies to the whole municipality).
18th century. The oldest surviving rural buildings of the Gland quarter date from this century.
1798. Vullierens, and with it Gland, passes to the district of Morges (applies to the whole municipality).
19th century. Most of the hamlet's building fabric, mainly former farmhouses, dates from this century.
1894. The Siegfried map shows the two built-up parts of the municipality, Vullierens near the castle site and Gland to the north-east, already in their present layout and linked to a large vineyard.
1899. The hamlet's dairy and cheese house is rebuilt.
2012. ISOS survey of Vullierens: Gland forms a separate perimeter in it, a quarter with a horizontal linear layout and rural building fabric.

Dairy and cheese house. Two-storey building rebuilt in 1899, with a gabled roof and a double entrance door whose lintel is topped by a cornice.
Row of former farmhouses. Rural farmhouses, sometimes adjoining, from the 18th and above all the 19th century, set out in a horizontal linear layout where the hamlet meets the vineyard; their rural structure has been preserved.
