Origin of the name Granges-de-Vesin

Granges-de-Vesin appears in 1330 as "Grangi de Visins". Its etymology has not been established.[1]

Founding of Granges-de-Vesin

Granges-de-Vesin was part of the lordship of Aumont and Montet. The families d'Estavayer, d'Illens, de Gléresse, de Reyff and de Lanthen-Heid held feudal rights there. Until 1804 the village formed a joint municipality with Aumont, and it belonged to the parish of Cugy, later to that of Aumont. The Petite Glâne, which rises at Vuissens, flows through it. In this village of farmers and many commuters, the arrival of the A1 motorway reversed the population trend. Granges-de-Vesin is now part of the municipality of Les Montets (merger of 2004).[1][2]
