Lamboing
Origin of the name Lamboing
Lamboing appears in 1179 (or 1178) as «Lamboens», in a forgery of the late 12th century, a form still used in 1235. Then come «Lambuoons» around 1240 and «Lamblingen» in 1304, and the present spelling around 1500. The old German name is Lamlingen.[1][3]
Founding of Lamboing
Lamboing is a farming village of the Montagne de Diesse that has always belonged to the parish of Diesse. A nobleman, Albert de Lamboing, is mentioned in 1255. From 1423 to 1509 the fief belonged to the Vaumarcus family, who built nine mills there and whose arms now appear in those of the municipality. In 1509 it was joined to the domain of the bishop of Basel, on whom it depended until 1798. Lamboing is now part of the municipality of Plateau de Diesse (merger of 2014).[1][3]
