Les Ecasseys
Origin of the name Les Ecasseys
The place appears in 1427 in the phrase « es Escace ». The meaning of the name is not established.[1]
Founding of Les Ecasseys
In the Middle Ages Les Ecasseys belonged to the lordship of Rue. Two thirds of the municipal territory are taken up by a large estate, Fort Lambert or Lamberg, owned at the beginning of the 17th century by the Lamberger and later by the Vonderweid. In the 19th and early 20th centuries peat was cut here, sold mainly to the glassworks of Semsales. Dairy farming is another source of income. Les Ecasseys is now part of the municipality of Vuisternens-devant-Romont (merger of 2003).[1]
