Origin of the name Bouloz

Bouloz appears in 1018 as "Bedolosci", then in 1154 as "Bolohc". The meaning of these forms remains obscure.[1]

Founding of Bouloz

Bouloz, the highest of the three villages of Le Flon (870 m), enters history in the 12th century through its ties with the Cistercian house of Hautcrêt: a local family was among its benefactors, and the monastery owned a grange in the village. Lords and abbeys later shared its lands and tithes. Bouloz long lived from farming, above all from dairying. It is now part of the municipality of Le Flon (merger of 2004).[1][4]

History of Bouloz

1018. Bouloz is mentioned as "Bedolosci".[1]

1155. Pope Adrian IV confirms to the house of Hautcrêt the tithe of the Bouloz grange. Alexander III renews this confirmation in 1179.[1]

1188. Guillaume de Rue hands over his rights and property in Bouloz to Hautcrêt.[1]

1244-1246. Conon de Prez has given the abbey of Hauterive the holding of Jacques de Bolos, on the village's land.[1]

1306. The great tithe of Bouloz is sold to Louis of Savoy.[1]

1536. Bouloz now comes under the bailiwick of Rue.[1]

1641. The village is attached to Porsel, which becomes a parish that year.[1][2]

1798-1848. Bouloz belongs to the district of Rue, before passing to the Veveyse district.[1]

1892. The Bouloz-Porsel dairy and cheese cooperative is founded.[2]

1948-1950. The village marshes are drained.[1]

1990. 72 % of the working population still work in the primary sector, mostly in dairying.[1]

2004. On 1 January Bouloz merges with Pont and Porsel to form the municipality of Le Flon. Its assembly had approved the agreement on 10 June 2003 by 64 votes to 2.[1][3]
