Founding of Litroz
Above the Tête-Noire gorges, Litroz is a hamlet of the municipality of Trient. During the Second World War a fort was dug here under the mountain, in a rock face rising 300 metres above the gorges. It is the largest of the dozen or so works in the valley, designed to block any armed incursion from the Chamonix valley towards Martigny and the heart of the Redoubt. Kept during the Cold War, these works were only declassified in the early 2000s. Restored and re-equipped by the Association du Fort de Litroz, the fort has been open to visitors since 2002.[1][2][3]
