Oberhäusern
Origin of the name Oberhäusern
Oberhäusern gave its name to one of the three communities that formed Eischoll. The name has not been explained.[1]
Founding of Oberhäusern
Oberhäusern was a hamlet on the territory of Eischoll, on the left bank of the Rhône. It was a self-governing community and indeed its main place, with its own community house, before uniting with Ried and Brunnen. The core of the new municipality then settled at Brunnen, today's village of Eischoll.[1]
History of Oberhäusern
1250. Eischoll, which includes Oberhäusern, appears in the records as "Oiselz".[1]
1376. The rule of the lords of La Tour-Châtillon ends. Eischoll passes to the five districts of Upper Valais, together with the castellany of Niedergesteln.[1]
1538. Eischoll adopts its municipal statutes.[1]
1656. The community house of Oberhäusern is built.[1]
around 1730. Ried, Oberhäusern and Brunnen, until then self-governing, unite to form today's municipality of Eischoll. Brunnen becomes its centre.[1]
1766. Eischoll, which until then depended on Niedergesteln, becomes a parish.[1]
1790. Through a buy-out, Eischoll ceases to be a subject territory of the districts of Upper Valais.[1]
1877. After a fire, the village of Eischoll is largely rebuilt.[1]
around 1900. Oberhäusern remains inhabited until around 1900. In the other hamlets of Eischoll, Zuben, Ried, Lohn, Breyen and Tscherggen, only farm buildings and chalets stand today.[1]
1920s. The community house of 1656 falls into ruin.[1]
1946. A cable car, the oldest in Upper Valais, links Eischoll to the Rhône valley. A road follows in 1970.[1]
