Russy
Origin of the name Russy
Russy appears in 1228 in the form « Rusie ».[1]
Founding of Russy
Like Domdidier and Dompierre, Russy belonged to the counts of Neuchâtel, and the priory of Payerne owned land here. From the 13th century the village was part of the lordship of Montagny, where it enjoyed wider franchises and liberties than the other localities. Part of the small lordship of Belmont also extended over its territory. Russy has always belonged to the parish of Dompierre. Farming still dominates at the beginning of the 21st century, with livestock and fodder and cereal crops. The village is now part of the municipality of Belmont-Broye (merger of 2016).[1][3]
