Origin of the name Tignousa

Tignousa is a locality above Saint-Luc whose name has never been explained.[4]

Founding of Tignousa

Tignousa is not a village. It is a locality above Saint-Luc, a former municipality of the Val d'Anniviers that has been part of the municipality of Anniviers since the 2009 merger. Its known history begins with the ski lifts: a Saint-Luc company ran a chairlift up to it from 1964, then applied to replace it with a funicular. An observatory and a trail devoted to the planets were laid out near the top station.[1][2][3]

History of Tignousa

1964. On 26 May the Federal Department of Transport, Communications and Energy grants the concession for a chairlift from Saint-Luc (La Combettaz) to Tignousa. The Société du télésiège Saint-Luc - Bella-Tola runs it from that year, summer and winter.[1]

1984. On 28 May the chairlift concession is renewed until 2004.[1]

1993. On 15 March the Federal Council proposes a concession for a Saint-Luc - Tignousa funicular to replace the chairlift, then almost 30 years old: a 1'281 m route, two cars of 80 places, a cost of 11 million francs.[1]

1995. Inauguration of the François-Xavier Bagnoud observatory, wanted by Albina du Boisrouvray and Bruno Bagnoud, the parents of François-Xavier.[2]
