Vauderens
Origin of the name Vauderens
The name appears in the 12th century with one Guilelmus de Vualdenens, a witness before 1173 in a charter of the abbey of Hauterive. The forms « Vendeens » and « Voudenens » follow, then « Vouderens » in 1403. What the name means has not been established.[1][2]
Founding of Vauderens
Vauderens lies in the upper Broye valley. From the 14th to the 16th century the lords of Prez and the Maillardoz of Rue shared the village tithe. The village had 20 hearths in 1278, but 5 in 1359. Long given over to traditional farming, it grew denser after the station opened in 1862. Vauderens is now part of the municipality of Ursy (merger of 2001).[1]
