Origin of the name Villangeaux

Villangeaux is recorded from 1161 as « Willangas ». No settled explanation of the name exists.[1]

Founding of Villangeaux

Villangeaux is a farming village on the left bank of the Broye, on a site where a Roman villa and early medieval graves have been found. Until 1536 it belonged to the Savoyard castellany of Moudon, and its people to the parish of Syens. The rights of the de Vulliens family over the village passed to the Fernay-Lullin, and in 1626 Guillaume Buttet, of Moudon, held its entire territory. United with Ecublens in 1969, Villangeaux is now part of the municipality of Rue (merger of 2025).[1][2]
