Villars-Bozon
Origin of the name Villars-Bozon
The name appears in the form «Villars Bozon» in a deed of 1606; records of 1758 also refer simply to «Villars». The origin of the name is not explained in the sources consulted.
Founding of Villars-Bozon
Villars-Bozon is not a municipality: it is a village of the municipality of L'Isle, in the district of Morges, south of the village of L'Isle. None of the sources consulted names a founder or a date of creation. In the Middle Ages Villars-Bozon belonged to the lordship of L'Isle, formed by the lords of Cossonay, who founded the small town of L'Isle in 1291-1292. Under the Ancien Régime it formed a single community with L'Isle and La Coudre, while having its own property: a deed of 1768 refers to the «commune particulière de Villars-Bozon». According to the municipality, L'Isle and Villars-Bozon merged in 1889.
