Founding of Cheiry

The territory of Cheiry has yielded a La Tène spearhead and an early medieval cemetery. The village enters history through its church: in 1184 the bishop of Lausanne gave it to the priory of Saint-Maire, together with that of Surpierre. A parish church in 1228, it was only a daughter church of Notre-Dame des Champs by 1453. Cheiry belonged to the lordship, then the bailiwick, of Surpierre. The inhabitants live from livestock, cereals and tobacco. The municipality took in Chapelle in 2005, then became part of the municipality of Surpierre (merger of 2021).[1][3]
