Origin of the name Dully
The place is recorded in 1238 as «Delui». None of the sources consulted explains the origin of the name.
Founding of Dully
None of the sources consulted says who founded the village or why. The site was settled very early: a Neolithic lake dwelling, Roman milestones and a large early medieval cemetery have been identified here. In the Middle Ages the area was divided between the lord of Mont-le-Vieux, the monastery of Romainmôtier and the noble families of Bursinel, Senarclens and Dully. The settlement is scattered over a small slope above Lake Geneva, with Dully to the west and the hamlet of Saint-Bonnet to the east.
History of Dully
Neolithic. A lake-dwelling village is built on the shore.
Roman period. Roman milestones (road markers) are set up on the territory.
Early Middle Ages. A large cemetery is in use; the grave of a Burgundian woman of about forty with a deformed skull was found there (to be cross-checked).
1238. First mention of the place as «Delui».
Middle Ages. The area is divided between the lord of Mont-le-Vieux, the monastery of Romainmôtier and the noble families of Bursinel, Senarclens and Dully. In church matters Dully belongs to the parish of Bursinel.
1536. Reformation: the parish of Bursinel, to which Dully belongs, adopts the Reformation and then becomes a dependency of the parish of Rolle.
Bernese period. Dully belongs to the bailiwick of Morges.
17th-18th centuries. The lordship passes through several hands, including the Gingins family.
1795. The house at route du Village 2 becomes the property of the Pictet family (to be cross-checked).
1798. Dully belongs to the district of Rolle.
1812-1814. The Pictet-Lullin house is rebuilt (to be cross-checked).
1884. The medieval castle is restored in a historicist style.
1922. Major land improvement works carried out with the municipality of Bursinel.
around 1960. End of the mainly farming and wine-growing character: Dully becomes a residential municipality with villa districts.
2008. Dully, until then in the district of Rolle, becomes part of the new district of Nyon, created by the 2006 territorial reorganisation.

Dully Castle. Medieval castle, the village's main monument, restored in 1884 in a historicist style.
Hamlet of Saint-Bonnet. Eastern part of the municipality's scattered settlement, on the slope above Lake Geneva.
Pictet-Lullin house. Large residence at route du Village 2, owned by the Pictet family since 1795, rebuilt in 1812-1814 and given a neo-medieval tower around 1864 (to be cross-checked).
