Founding of Le Vernay

Le Vernay is no longer a municipality: its former territory is now divided between the municipalities of Bursins and Luins, in the district of Nyon. The sources consulted say neither who founded it nor why. The hamlet is recorded in the 14th century and, from 1434, belonged to the castellany of Bursins. It disappeared in the 15th century, probably because of the plague (to be cross-checked), but continued to form a municipality until 1830; its property was then divided between Bursins and the neighbouring municipalities. The municipality of Bursins now includes part of the hamlet of Le Vernay, and that of Luins part of the former municipality. The ISOS inventory of Bursins (2012) describes it as a hamlet « that has now disappeared ».
