Origin of the name Éclagnens
The name "Éclagnens" is first mentioned in 1265 in the form "de Clanens". The etymology is thought to derive from a Latin gentilic name "Clanius" followed by the suffix "-anum", a plausible hypothesis but not confirmed by archaeological data.
Founding of Éclagnens
The village developed as a farming community of the Gros-de-Vaud, coming under the lordship of Orbe from 1285.
