Founding of Goumoens-le-Jux

The village grew up around a fortified castle, first mentioned as "Turris de Thela" in 1184, rebuilt in stone in the early 13th century by Guillaume de Goumoëns. The lordship of Goumoëns later split into three branches, giving rise to Goumoens-le-Jux, Goumoens-la-Ville and Goumoens-le-Châtel (today Saint-Barthélemy).
