Germagny
Origin of the name Germagny
Name origin: not explained by the sources consulted, which also give no dated early form of the name.
Founding of Germagny
Germagny is not a municipality: it is a quarter and hamlet in the vineyards of the municipality of Mont-sur-Rolle, in the district of Nyon. The sources consulted name neither a founder nor a founding act; the quarter is said to date back to around the year 1000 (to be cross-checked). In 1405, Mont, Germagny and Haute-Cour probably formed three distinct territorial entities, which now make up the municipality of Mont-sur-Rolle. In the 15th century, Germagny had an oven and a seigneurial house. The « Germagny measure » was commonly used in the region for cereals and wine. The place developed along the westernmost uphill route of the municipality, lined with wine estates named after their localities, including the Clos de Germagny.
