Grattavache
Origin of the name Grattavache
Grattavache is recorded in 1403 as "Ginta Vachi". The meaning of the name has not been established. In the arms of La Verrerie, a cow now recalls the village.[1][4]
Founding of Grattavache
Grattavache is a scattered settlement at the sources of the Mionnaz, between Le Crêt and Semsales. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the castellany of Rue and to the parish of Saint-Martin-de-Vaud. The La Vaux stream drove mills there, and the village has remained mainly a place of farming and crafts. Grattavache is now part of the municipality of La Verrerie (merger of 2004).[1]
