Origin of the name La Conversion

Name origin: not explained by the sources consulted. The name is not unique to Lutry: swisstopo also lists a place name «La Conversion» in the municipality of Vully-les-Lacs.

Founding of La Conversion

La Conversion is not a municipality: it is a locality of the municipality of Lutry, in the district of Lavaux-Oron. No founding act is known. The history of Lutry lists La Conversion among the many hamlets of the municipality, with Curtinaux, Savuit, Le Châtelard, Corsy, Echerins, Bossières, Le Daley, Montagny, Le Petit Bochat, Le Miroir and La Croix. Its growth is linked to the railway: a station opened there in 1862 on the line to Bern. Today it is described as an outlying district in the upper part of Lutry, is paired with Corsy in the official list of the municipality's localities and has its own postcode (1093 La Conversion).

History of La Conversion

1862. Opening of La Conversion station on the line to Bern, one year after Lutry station on the Simplon line (1861).

2008. On 1 January, Lutry, and with it La Conversion, joins the new district of Lavaux-Oron (law on territorial division in force since 1 September 2006).

2023. La Conversion station handles about 1'100 passengers per weekday.

2024. From December, the station is served every half hour by RER Vaud lines S40 and S41 between Lausanne and Fribourg.

La Conversion station. Opened in 1862, it lies at an altitude of 501 metres, at kilometre 4.0 of the Lausanne-Bern line, between Pully-Nord and Bossière. It has two tracks, two platforms and a park-and-ride with 62 spaces.
