Le Mouret

Merger 2003 Canton of Fribourg · District: Sarine · 3'326 inhabitants (31.12.2025)

Origin of the name Le Mouret

Le Mouret is the name of a place, not that of one of the six merged municipalities. As part of this place lies in the territory of Ferpicloz, the federal offices asked that municipality for its opinion, and it approved. The Commission for the nomenclature of local names had also given a favourable opinion. Article 2 of the decree then lays down that the new municipality bears the name « Le Mouret ».[1][2]

Founding of Le Mouret

Bonnefontaine, Essert, Montévraz, Oberried, Praroman and Zénauva form Le Mouret, with 2'656 inhabitants on 31 December 2000 over 18.47 km². Their territory is close to that of the parish of St Lawrence, created in 1644. The project, launched in 1998 with Ferpicloz, which withdrew in 2000, led to an agreement adopted by the six communal assemblies on 13 June 2002. The Grand Council ratified it by decree on 17 September 2002 and the merger took effect on 1 January 2003, with state aid of 1'191'458 francs. The arms take up those of the six municipalities: a silver gridiron, a black bear, an uprooted green fir and a silver fountain on a field divided per saltire red and gold, beneath two black arrows.[1][2][3]
